I have mixed feelings about AI generated music, given that I myself am a producer. Sure it can be useful for workflow and streamlining activity, but full productions entirely done by AI is something that I'm not in full support of.
But with the recent discovery of Obscurest Vinyl, and other channels like it, I have a different outlook about the application of AI generated music when put towards the realm of obscure, comedic, out of nowhere and oddly satisfying.
Obscurest Vinyl is a channel where they release a variety of different tracks that are AI generated in different styles, but with lyrics and composition that would make you turn your head thinking "What in the hell?"
That's just putting it simply. Let's go over a few examples.
First track on the list is aptly named "I Glued My Balls to My Butthole Again"
Again!?
Immediately, you're met with a 60s themed background, tune and voice. It sounds as if its a long lost song from the era, though with off the wall lyrics that will cause you to bust out laughing at the sheer lunacy of the content being sung about. No sane or normal person would think to sing such a tune, and in such a manner, yet a mad lad with AI generated it, and the results are both shocking and downright hilarious! It's catchy, it gets into your head and paints a stupid grin on your face knowing that its not something you'd expect to hear from any artist from that time period, or even now (unless your Weird Al or Tenacious D).
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on glue."
This isn't the only track of such nature that they have under their belts.
The next Obscurest Vinyl record that got me smiling with a stupid grin is the track named "It's Time To Take a Sh** on the Company’s Dime."
The beat itself sounds like it could be on a 70s or 80s sitcom intro, yet it feels relatable to some degree. Again, the content is absurd, catchy and makes dealing with a 9 to 5 more bearable.
"Getting paid to sh**, getting paid to wipe, best 45 minutes of my f****g life"
You can't make this up. This is something that you'd least expect from AI music generation.
The common theme that Obscurest Vinyl has been able to hit is the catchiness of the instrumentals, the comedic approach to the lyrics and making the covers look as if they truly came from the time period that they emulate. As you're listening, you want to hate it, but you end up loving it so much because of how well executed the composition is.
The last example that we'll cover is "Its Raining Bullsh**"
Easily a track that can describe American Politics.
"It's raining bullsh*t tonight"
Another track that could be from the 70s or 80s, given its instrumental. And just like the previous examples, it goes to show that the potential for this kind of content going viral is a particular highlight when it comes to AI music application.
At the very least, these tracks are catchy, put you in a good mood and makes you wonder as to what more can be made from these channels. And more channels emulating Obscurest Vinyl have come out with similar kinds of tracks, and the number keeps on rising. Even the people commenting are making jokes about how "times were simpler" as joking remarks to throw people off that this is in fact AI generated.
If AI is truly going to take our jobs and end our existence, at least make us laugh while doing it.
Give Obscurest Vinyl a look on youtube. You won't be disappointed by their roster.
